Variable Optical Attenuators
VOAs control the amount of light passing through a fiber. In ROADMs, they are used to balance the light of the various DWDM channels. In coherent receivers, they are used to dampen transient noise. In Agile Networks, they are often used for signaling and wavelength tracking.
