Kotura, Inc. is a worldwide leader in silicon photonics. Founded in 2004 and headquartered in Monterey Park, Calif., the company designs, manufactures and markets application specific silicon photonics circuits. Kotura’s unique technology platform integrates a broad range of optical and optoelectronic functionality to provide innovative ASIC solutions for applications ranging from communications, to high speed Ethernet LANs, high performance computing, as well as optics-based sensing and detection. The company is comprised of more than 20 PhDs and has almost 100 granted and pending patents.
Kotura’s in-house fab has been in mass production since 2006 and ensures that designs are manufactured to the highest quality standards and ready for commercial deployment. Kotura is committed to quality and has achieved ISO 9001:2008 certification.
Kotura’s roadmap centers on the development of a silicon photonic system-on-a-chip that will redefine optical networking by delivering high performance, low power solutions.
About Silicon Photonics
Silicon Photonics is a new field of technology that integrates optical functions into silicon chips to provide faster data transfer between Ethernet routers, switches and servers. Optical interconnects based on silicon photonics are replacing copper wires, resulting in increased processing speed, reduced heat and energy consumption, and lower costs.
Published Papers
Kotura’s world-class research and development efforts have resulted in a large number of technical publications. Authored by Kotura’s technical staff and sometimes co-authored by prominent companies including Oracle, NeoPhotonics and Telcordia Technologies, the papers are consistently published in reputable journals and conferences organized by associations such as the Optical Society of America, the IEEE and the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE).

In the public sector, Kotura works with several universities and departments of the U.S. government, including DARPA, Department of Commerce (NIST) and National Science Foundation (NSF).
